THE HOTEL CALIFORNIA

It wasn't easy but we got her launched. Without chains on the ATV, we never would have made it. Thanks to Don and his brother for the assist.
Picked up two small walleyes last night. Way too small to keep, but it's a start.
A lot going on this time of year. Try not to lose sight of what is important...... Dew

&&^^%%^ Snow

I moved "The Hotel California" over to Don's yesterday morning in anticipation of heavy snow. Didn't want her marooned in my driveway when it's time to launch. We got buried...Didn't get plowed out until this afternoon. The lake is a mess. 3 inches of ice and a ton of snow and drifts all over the place. I have no idea if I will get her out or not. Bought chains for the ATV. Glenda and I will try in two weeks. If we get stuck, I guess we'll fish in 5 feet of water or where ever we end up. Maybe the Voodoo Lounge???
Off to Wisconsin next weekend to hang out with good friends and sit in a tree, looking for a doe.

The Deer Hunters - 2007

Not much for looks but these boys can shoot.....

The hunter who hunts alone.....

Driving out in the dark isn't a problem. No conversation but with some tunes and coffee, it's ok. When you walk through the woods, you remember certain spots, where you or one of your buddies made a great shot (or blew one). Memories of previous hunts... You look to the left and then to the right, and no one is there.... Fortunately for me I had someone right behind me. My beautiful wife of 38 years refused to let me go alone, and knew I had to go. So, she trudged along to keep me company. I worked spots that would be easier on her and when she got tired, let her rest in the truck while I walked a couple of short stretches. We didn't hunt all day and if you measured success by the number of birds we brought home, well then it wasn't a successful hunt. We drove a bunch of gravel back roads home, stopped at the Dairy Queen and admired some Amish buildings along the way. It was a good hunt with some good memories.....

Sometimes there ain't no justice!!

First shot in his life at a flying grouse. If Walker hadn't missed the next three I probably would have to have left him in the woods.....

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

The Hunters.........

Well, the grouse faced Alva, Kurt and myself. We threw 172 years of experience at them. Five died, we all survived. Next week the survivors face me and a man called Walker. The week after, maybe just me.....

THE NORTHERN CONTEST

Thanks to a great bunch of guys who once again almost killed themselves hauling docks and a lift out of the lake..... Oh, and by the way, if anyone is short on cash, Kurt has 90 bucks!!

Don and Dewey go Fishin'!

Well, what did you expect? What else do we do up here?? Fished until after dark again. That seems to be the key. Makes docking the boat a lot of fun.
Suppose I'll have to do some "pre-fishing" next weekend for the upcoming Northern Contest. Can't let Mikey have it two years in a row!
A very good buddy of mine from down Texas way turned me on to something this weekend. Do a search and find "The Outlaws Prayer" by Johhny Paycheck. I'll say no more.....
Have a good week..... Dew

I've always liked this quote...

If victory is always easily gained, you are simply striving towards the insignifiant.....

Kurt and Dewey go a golfin'

What would a Labor Weekend be without a trip to the links?? Along with our "significant others", we tackled the local 9 hole course. We played "Dewey Rules", of course. I launched my first drive out of bounds, lost the ball but found two others. Under "Dewey Rules" that not only negates the out of bounds stroke but subtracts yet another stroke from the hole!!
One of the balls I found was a Calloway "Warbird". It served me well until the 9th hole when I decided to use my driver again and, you guessed it, launched one into the forest. Said goodbye to the "Warbird" It served me well.....
Besides out trip to the links, we deep fried my wild turkey, caught fish and tried not to get dehydrated......
Oh, by the way, for a complete set of "Dewey Rules", send $15.00 cash to me. I'll get back to you..........
Rock on!!

NORWEGIAN THUNDER!!!

OK, who says you can't catch crappies in late August?? We caught some beauties in one of my secret spots - assuming Ali doesn't rat on us... I can tell you this much. We had the lights on in the boat when we came in.....

Dewey Does Alaska!!!

I suppose you all wondered what happened to this old Norwegian blogger! Well, as you can see, I slipped across the border unmolested. Who needs a passport.....Spent a week in Alaska and didn't even fish. Probably made a lot of fish happy tho.....

THE MEMORIAL

Thanks guys.........

Sunday, June 10, 2007

Well, it's about time........

I was going to show a picture of Al and the boys and their crappies but decided to show a picture of me instead. After all, this is my blog. 22 3/4" walleye on an ultralight. After an epic 10 minute struggle, this beauty was landed with a perfect net jog by Alva.
Next weekend we walk ditches, then The Memorial..... Dewey

Fishing alone.....

You know, sometimes it's not so bad. When the sun is coming up (no rain for a change) and it's quiet (no wind for a change), you can hear things. Heard a couple of gobblers this morning off in the distance (the lucky ones), and caught fish in yet another secret spot.
Next weekend it's Al, Anne and the kids. The weekend afterwards it's walking ditches with some people who are way too loyal, or have nothing better to do then to pick up roadside trash with us.....The weekend after is The Memorial. 25 or so people strong.....How time flies....... Dew

Whad'ya expect?????

Once again "The Old Canadian" and son went afishin'. Led by that famous crappie guide...that would be me!! A new "secret spot" was discovered and lots of nice fish were caught - most returned to the waters.
Big holiday weekend coming up. Maybe my granddaughter can show me how to catch a walleye.....

THE OPENER

I was going to show a picture of "The Old Timers" and their crappies but was upstaged by my soon to be 10 year old granddaughter who caught this 19 1/2" walleye Saturday evening on an ultra light rod and reel. They do say talent skips a generation......

TURKEYS!!!!

On the fifth morning of a five day hunt we scored three nice gobblers. Johnny stalked his for 40 minutes before he nailed it. I don't know that I could have done that....
More important for any of you that will be up here in 9 days for Opener - you get to hear all our stories!!!

ICE OUT!!!!! Well, almost.......

Stone's been bugging me for a picture of "ice out". Once it's gone it wouldn't make for much of a picture now would it? Nevertheless, am picking up the boat this weekend and will make those turkey hunters launch the dock, etc in a week.

Eric - You were and are and always will be my hero....... Love, Dad

Dewey and Don go a loggin'

Dug thru a foot of hard snow, drilled thru 3 feet of ice, stood on the ice for 3 hours and caught 1 crummy northern. However, went to a wine and beer tasting party Saturday night. My wine selection took first place and my beer took second. And me, a Jack Daniels drinker. Go figure.....
So Sunday, Don and I took some more problem trees down in Conleyville. More campfire wood I guess.......

Sunday, February 25, 2007

Good Grief!!!!!

What's Dewey doin'? What's Dewey Doin'? He shoveled %^&*#!$#^*!! snow all weekend!! Was going to go over and watch Conley get his septic system unfroze but that didn't seem too interesting..
Oh, and by the way, there will be no granite counter tops in the Voodoo Lounge. Gotta keep the weight down boys.

CRAPPIES!!!!

Howdy! I fished with Don in "La Casa Greengard" He doesn't have a sign like me but I felt like giving it a name anyway. We hit some nice crappies Saturday night and this morning. I tossed a 1 1/2 pounder back. Finally had some fresh fish for dinner. As my proficiency with those little rods and reels improves, I'm sure I will be feared in winter as I now am in the summer (by the crappies that is). Have a great week! Dew

Sunday, February 11, 2007

Say hello to Sam!!

Well, it was 26 below Friday and 24 below Saturday, plus I had a cold. Therefore I was relegated to the house. My dog has always wanted to be published so here's Sammy!
My "Voodoo Lounge" sign was too big so now I gotta remake it....

Sunday, February 4, 2007

NAME THAT PORTABLE!!!!!!!

Well, I had had 3 entries in the contest - "The Cone of Silence", "The Burp Cloth" and "The Voodoo Lounge" After the votes were tallied - yeah right, only I get to vote....I have picked Stone's entry - "The Voodoo Lounge". Now I gotta make another sign - geez.
Stone's prize is a 3 week vacation in Elbow Lake. No, I'm not paying for it. Maybe Uwe can sell a vacuum cleaner and front this .
20 below 3 nights in a row so no fishing was attempted. However, I did finish my name and address sign and purchased small propane bottles and, of course, another small rod and reel. Can't have too many you know.

The New Plan.....

Well, in the face of a 25 mph wind Saturday, "The Old Norwegian" and "The Great Indoorsman" pulled "The Hotel California" into drydock. One might think this would be the end of fishing for the year, but No! I have purchased "The Great Indoorsman's" portable so now, yes... you got it.... you've been waiting for it....Dewey is mobile!! Only great things can come of this. Now, I gotta give it a name.........

WALKER IS ARMED!!!!

Walker and I fished morning and night - caught northerns and more northerns. If I can handle it, I think I'll pull "The Hotel California" next weekend, stick it in front of Don's lagoon, and try for some panfish. Even I wise up after awhile....
Oh yeah, Walker picked up a shotgun this weekend. He blew away a milk carton and a hunk of plywood. Then I sent him down to the cities............ Dew

Don and Dewey go a fishin'

Headed down to Don's ice house on the west end in search of panfish (or anything else that would bite). That ATV ride Sat morning at 14 below was kinda chilly. Lucky we Norwegians are made of hardy stock! But I digress... We caught a few sunnies, crappies bass and northerns. I even caught a bullhead....At least there's fresh fish for dinner tomorow night. No, not the bullhead.
Fished out of "The Hotel California" this afternoon. You guessed it.... northern after northern.
Walker's coming up next weekend. He's normally good a a walleye. Have a good week all!!!

Walleye "fishermen" 2007

Here we all are. A special thanks to Erika Schnapp for "guiding" me through posting this picture via email.

Sunday, January 7, 2007

Well, the walleyes didn't cooperate this weekend but I had a great time with some great people!! I scanned a picture of this motely group standing next to "The Hotel California" however I forgot how to get it from there to my Blog. Any suggestions??
Fished for an hour late this afternoon. Was joined by "The Great Indoorsman" He watched me haul in a 6" northern and I called it a day. Heck, I might call it a season and start chasing panfish. Think I'll fish crappies next weekend with Don and "Buster the Wonder Dog".
Have a good week all!!! Dew P.S. Hey Mel, quit picking on Cinderella. It's kinda like vegetables. You gotta try em to like em. AND, did you know George Stait is exactly 365 days younger than me???

Thursday, January 4, 2007

Ok, No Gary Puckett, no Prince and absolutely no Kiss. How far we've fallen...... This is Rock n' roll country boys!!! Hey, anybody want to see my Cinderella DVD???

Tuesday, January 2, 2007

John Fogerty

Well, since the fishing has been lousy, I watched "The Long Road Home" DVD concert by John Fogerty. Excellent!!! Some of these "old rockers" can still put on a show!

Monday, January 1, 2007

Well, the "evening bite" consisted of a whole bunch of &&^$^*9 little northerns. Wish I had better news to report!!!

New Year.... 2007!!!!!

Well, the old timers fished a bunch this weekend with limited success. Many world problems were solved and some alcohol was comsumed. Since we had no fish pictures to send, I've pulled out an old shot of the Coneheads. I don't even know who these two people were but I found them standing on my dock one day and took their picture.....
