Fishin' With Mikey

Mike is technically my brother-in-law, but more like a brother. About 30 or so years ago, I asked him if he wanted to do some fishing. He's been in the bow of my boat ever since.
We almost exclusively fish crappies. We like constant action, setting the hook and ripping lips. I have no idea how many fish we've boated but that really doesn't matter. We've had a million laughs and have told so many stories that the boys around the campfire roll their eyes when we get started. We don't care...we'll keep telling them forever!
We no longer get up at 5:00am to fish as we have discovered that crappies don't wear wrist watches and seem to bite whenever we are in the boat. Same goes for that late pm bite and fishing for 8 hours at a crack. Maybe that's just age setting in or maybe we're just getting really, really smart.
No matter for as long as we can still push that boat off the trailer, we'll keep fishing together.
Thanks for the memories Mike!!!

Dewey,

It's nice to see a post from the northland. I am fishing a tournament with a great friend of mine, Mark Applen. He too had a son, his only, named Eric who was taken from him way too early. A rare form of cancer took Eric at 17, after a couragous battle. Today we have turned this tragedy into something positive by raising money in Eric's name to help families. His website is www.eric-nicolin-applen.com. to date we have raised over $175,000 to help others through Eric. I cannot imagine your pain and sometimes finding the right words are difficult. Hang in there as I am positive your son is very proud of you. Wish us luck tomorrow!

Hi Dave - I checked out that web site. It's a great thing you guys are doing. We held a memorial fishing tournament for seven years to raise money for Eric's son's education fund. We only stopped it as we didn't want to continue to impose on all our great friends, even though so many of them said they would come forever.
You just do whatever you can do, I guess.
Good luck on the tournament. I'm anxious to see how you guys did.

I understand and my friend Mark has struggled with this as well. There is never any wrong answers is there?

Just finished my Cardiac Rehab tonight, all 24 sessions. Now I just hope I can keep the weight off!
